If you are in a position to buy a house, it can be so exciting. This is a monumental occasion and a huge milestone. It can seem like such a large decision to make that it isn’t uncommon from buyers to feel overwhelmed by the process. As buyers walk through endless open houses on the hunt for the perfect place, there are certain things that they should be looking for. Deb Maher Realtor is here to share some open house tips for buyers so that they can find the perfect house for them.
Home Staging Process
Most people selling their homes will go through a staging process where the house is staged to look the best and appeal to the most buyers. This might mean that they have certain furniture placed in the house or pictures of their families taken off the walls. They want the potential buyers to be able to easily imagine themselves living in the house. Sometimes, a home will be staged so well that buyers often overlook issues that they are going to want to have addressed should they decide to buy the house. Here are some tips to help buyers locate hidden issues inside an open house:
– Check Under Sinks: When you walk through the kitchen and the bathrooms, it is always a good idea to take a peek underneath the sinks. This is where you would notice any water damage due to plumbing issues.
– Take Note of Outlets: You will also want to take note of the electrical outlets in the house. As you imagine living there, think about the things that you would need to plug in. You want to make sure there are plenty of outlets to power the appliances and other electronics in your house.
– Storage: Another thing that you will want to be watching out for in an open house is the storage. All homeowners need to have storage in their homes. You don’t just want storage closets, but you also want to have convenient storage. The placement is important.
– Appliances: You need to ask if the appliances are staying with the house or not. If they are, make sure they are working well. They should all be turned on and able to function while you are there.
– Flooring: If there are rugs that are being used in the house, make sure you lift them up and make sure that the flooring underneath them isn’t damaged in any way.
– Floor Level: Take note of the floor as well. You want the floors to all be even and level. If they aren’t, you need to worry about foundation issues.
